The Road (2009), directed by John Hillcoat is actually a great and exceptional post apocalyptic movie with a serious and realistic approach on “how would people survive if there would be a total devastation of natural resources” The movie gives us a simple answer – we’re all doomed!

The Road is not one of those creepy Silent Hill pretensions on hell on earth or Cyborgs saving humanity. No shit. It is about the human nature and the shift from civilization to the stone age of the post apocalyptic world.

In the Road we see the real interpretation of human evils – greed and animosity.  The plot is simple – the father (Viggo Mortensen) and his son are the one of those desperate drifters of the post apocalyptic disaster, roaming across the scorched earth painted in gray, dodging manhunters and the deadly forests they confront the inner fight of suicide.

rented this on dvd when it came out…after watching it i felt totally depressed…dont think i could watch it again…hopefully this post-apocalyptic version of the world…will never come to fruition….

Yeah, people this kind of movie actually compels you to think more about true values of life, self-preservation and social communication.

In the grey and cold world of the Road there are no laws or respect but only the will to survive. The man of the Road is something in between broken and desperate vagabond and kind of a “drifter of hope”

Robinson Crusoe?

The longest trip from the place you have called “home” before (was actually burned down by the hands of  some scavengers) to the coast side of nowhere, in hope of living the continent for good.

You’ll truly shit your pants trying to survive starvation, rain, tumbling down rotten trees (formerly called the forest) or swerving your long paths away from the gang of cannibals.There are no villains and not superheroes – just life and death!

The movie stands out for its realism and strong message. Truly enjoyable picture

I think that Waterworld is kind of an underrated movie. Well from the stand point of post-apocalypses genre the movie does less than the Road for example. However if you compare its time and 35 mm spectacle – yes the Waterworld is a cope with Mad Max 2!

First of all, the main misconception Waterwolrd is that it was shot cheap, I don;t actually know how you suppose to figure out the cheapness of the particular scene or shot but Waterworld is a high budget disaster flick.

The environment

The environment of Waterwolrd is astonishing, I mean just plain and simple. We see shanky shacks erected and build upon the hulls of plastic garbage and piled up leftovers of the sunken civilization. We see some interesting and intricate water refiners and pumps moving the flying- balloons up in the air.

If you look closer at the drifters you’d probably notice how “fuel” efficient they are, well except those goddam stupid idiots “smokers” which roar around their own dead  bodies,

The environment of Waterworld is clearly imaginative, but in the same way simplistic to its mechanics.

The heroes and the antipodes

The main heroes is no doubt an asshole who violates any freedom of laughs. He tosses women on the floor before he hits her with the spade. The guy from Postman doesn’t like to talk that much. You see, and imaginative disaster world is a sombre place to live you know.

However, the main hero nicknamed Gil (Kevin Costner) not only stingy and slinky on words but also on his resources. What do you expect from a man who drinks his own piss?

The fucking villain

Yes, pal your metal eye looks like shit, but the fact that you’re most stupid and self-centred idiot of the type of baboons makes an audience only feel vested! The main villain (Zitto Kazann) of this movie is a very charismatic and magnetising person, believe me not!

The guy puns jokes as if he spits toothpick around the corner. Actually, he reminds me tThe Gyro Captain of it’s own. The guy is awesomely enchanting!

For lads and assholes

Waterworld is a type of Mad Max action, but on water. And if you like Mad Max’s fraternity and psychic speed action then you would probably love Waterworld!

Let us mention youtube one million time again and all those movie websites that are inferior to it. Many film makers just don’t do films anymore, because of the video streaming services such as youtube.

Well at first, you need to understand that youtube straightens its own policies on copyrights so if you’re having some kind of the experimental movie with the third parties film stock content (or soundtracks) you might be blocked.

You probably know those independent movies or showbiz projects that had started up from the youtube platform and then had had turned into some serious business models. For example, Gametrailers, or Cinemassacre were all starting form the independent shorts uploaded by the volunteers on youtube and after on transferred to their own host sites .

How come that the old Robocop of 1987 looks way better than a new CGI knockoff? Very simple – a new Robocop is just commercial knockoff meanwhile the first one is an interesting sci-fi concept. Our verdict – just stay away and be serious.

A new Robocop? Well it needs to have a new look. I mean spandex might go well here… Wait, does it make a completely different movie?

Local film industries are striving for a swag of new marketing niche, however the destination of such a rash is an outrageous lack of business manners and rules. The movie industry is not that different from porn industry, where people are being depleted and disposed as a matter of promotional demand. Moreover, a film industry instigated a porno business to become valid.

The “star” level of Hollywood actors is nothing more than a rating of product in terms of business definition of movie producers.  The lack of art in initiative leads to a total exhaust of any idea, which Hollywood has admitted publicly.

An outrageous rules of the American Guild of Actors and Writers led the working class of Hollywood, an actors and writers of any caliber, to an outrageous strive protest for “human approach” in movie industry. These protest are mostly ignored and delude in the local news and publicity, are the direct sign and indication that Hollywood blockbuster industry is nothing more but a Wild Wild West of Non-conformity in film industry.

The direct abuse of human rights by movie industries had its own appeal in a High Court both 1962 and 1974, however it is exclusively worth to admit that the mentioned appeals of the Actors Guild didn’t go any further so far. The movie incentive on the other hand is a new proposition from independent movie makers now days.

But you might be smarter than that. Why shall you consider yourself wasting your own money if you could be paid by merger companies? Let us, clarify the deed. Many people consider psychological drama as a way of expression of our inner sins and misdeeds. However the cinema of the 21 century thinks opposite. Psychological drama became a prevalent franchise of Thelma and Luise. A broken hearts rushing from place to place to cherish the way of freedom.

Today’s drama is more illusion and unrealistic. Such movies as Titanic and Mullen Rouge has destroyed the definition of drama for a while. The scepsis of the dramatic condition is even more obvious when you realize that Hollywood dramas are more obscene in terms of esthetic and artistic essence. The main hero never travels to his deep dreams. He never troubled by his inner character – his inner essence of being confused, buffed or even scared.

What is that feeling when you feel fear but there is nothing obvious to fear about? Is that a fear of death? Or fear of life? Psychological drama forgot that notion in its Hollywood surrealistic musicals of madness and perversion.

However, the new independent movie makers are rising to prove the opposite.

It looks  like Sylvester Stallone did a good job returning an old style kick – ass – rock – n – roll B movies back on scene. We all know that the Expendables series made that to happen in some case.  However the story with JCVD is a little bit different.

This time the old but familiar to all of us guy from the Bloodsport  (Jean-Claude Van Damme in case if you’re from the moon) gets his abs back to action in his last time!

Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning or just Universal Soldier IV is a new attempt of Muscles from Brussels to get his franchise and Hollywood star status back no matter how. After the successful launch of Expendables 2 it looks like a right move from a movie producer standpoint.

Marlon Brando or Darth Wader?

Decades has passed after such titanic works as Bloodsport and Kickboxer but Van Damme is still in good shapes as a man and as an actor, comparing for example to Arny.

Seems to be that audience likes more baddies than over the top good and correct “heroes”. In the new Universal Soldier JCVD plays a bad guy straight after Expendables 2! Finally, after all those years of anticipation we’re going to see a master himself on a dark side of the moon. This is what exactly JCVD needs in his fading career – a dark return of the hitman!
